New Samsung TVs in the US will soon have the TikTok app built-in.
Could this usher in a new viewing experience trend for social videos?
The TikTok-Samsung partnership deal was announced in December, and has already led to TikTok enabled smart TV viewing in Europe. Now, this functionality is also coming to the US. This is a move that interestingly pairs with the Samsung Sero TV’s ability to rotate to vertical mode.
Could videos made for social media soon become as normal to watch on the big-screen as Netflix and cable?
Of course, you can already watch social videos on your TV via various streaming options such as Apple AirPlay. But, the direct integration makes the experience more seamless, with made-for-TV features such as “For You” and “Following” feeds. You can even watch TikTok videos without a TikTok account.
There are also revenue/advertising implications, as mentioned in SocialMediaToday. YouTube, for example, offers TV-specific ad placement options like Masthead Ads.
This could be a trend worth keeping an eye on.
