TikTok is constantly evolving its platform to keep up with the latest trends and technology. Recently, it has been testing a new generative AI avatar creator that enables users to create custom profile images in-stream. This process involves uploading between three and ten photos of themselves, from which TikTok's system can generate a range of variations and styles of avatar images. While there's no official release date yet, it appears that the generative AI tool is close to public testing.

How It Works

The generative avatar process guides users through uploading their selfie images, with notes on how the platform will use and delete any pictures sent. The AI then takes the uploaded images and generates a unique profile image for the user. The generative process can create a wide range of styles and variations, making each user's profile image unique.

Other apps and websites like Lensa or ProfilePicture.AI offer a similar service, but platforms like TikTok and others seem to want to integrate the capability directly into their own websites.

Note: The feature is still in testing mode, but according to outlets like Social Media Today, the feature seems to be close to a public release. The Verge reports that the experiment is currently available in select regions.
