After over 10 years of existence, Snapchat is finally coming to desktop.
The new web browser-based option announced by parent company Snap is now available at web.snapchat.com—but only on Chrome or Edge browsers.
Officially called Snapchat for Web, the new feature will allow people to interact with core features from their laptop or desktop computer. Key features include:
Send Snaps, messages, replies, and reactions
Make video calls
Messages will still delete in 24 hours
Lenses (coming soon)
The experience will be available globally “soon” but is currently only available to Snapchat+ users in the US, UK, and Canada, as well as all users in Australia and New Zealand (must be nice…).
While some people did “hack” their way into Snapchat by using emulators, the native web app will make things much more seamless for those who want to Snap from the comfort of a home office or a laptop in a cafe.
By bringing Snapchat to larger devices, this new offering could make Snapchat a more holistic experience for its users. As mentioned by Social Media Today, many more people are working from home, “Snapchat likely sees more opportunity to maximize its connections by creating a separate web app.”
This could also be an awesome new opportunity for marketers who want an easier way to manage branded Snapchat accounts from their office environment.
