The popular slideshow-style carousel posts that social media users have grown accustomed to on apps like Instagram are now becoming available to use on LinkedIn.
LinkedIn Carousels are meant to capitalize on the recent surge in creator knowledge sharing by providing more “visual” and “digestible” posting opportunities. Users are then able to swipe or tap through these posts “at your own pace” either directly in the feed or by expanding into full screen mode.
One of the cool details of this feature on LinkedIn is the ability to include not only photos, but videos as well. This makes the carousel posts feel almost like Story mixed with a typical feed post. Check out this example:
These types of posts are not entirely new. For one thing Carousel Ads have been available for a few years. Additionally, organic posts with PDF attachments have appeared like carousels within the feed for about the same amount of time.
The feature is currently being tested, but all indicators suggest it will be widely available soon.
Carousels are popular on other platforms for many reasons: They provide excellent storytelling opportunities, they encourage engagement with posts, and they are just fun to create.
This style of post is likely to become quite popular in the business-minded LinkedIn environment, where many active posters are already sharing content that could easily be turned into a visual carousel post. (They may even already be sharing carousel-like PDF posts—which have been shown get more clicks than other posts.)
For those promoting brands on LinkedIn, consider how you might make use of slide-style posts to better engage and grow your audience.
