Several new features have been rolling out in recent weeks on Pinterest. Let’s take a look at two biggies: the Watch tab and Idea Pin Takes.
The Pinterest app will now be split into two tabs:
Browse, for the typical feed-style posts, and
Watch, which highlights “Idea Pins.”
Formerly called “Story Pins,” Idea Pins consist of a series of images or short videos that tell a story. (It seems that Pinterest renamed this feature to “Idea Pins” to help differentiate them from the ephemeral nature of Stories on other platforms, since Idea Pins should have a longer shelf life.)
The Watch tab is a full-screen feed allowing you to scroll throw the feed and interact as desired.

Whenever a creator shares an Idea Pin, users will now be able to post a “take” to show their personal spin on the idea.
Here’s how it works:
Tap an Idea Pin to open it
Tap the rectangle in the bottom-right corner of the Pin
Tap Create your take
You’ll then be taken to a new composition view, where you’ll be able to create a new Idea Pin. Here are some of the things to know at this stage:
Before you create an Idea Pin, you’ll need to accept and agree to the Creator Code, a pledge to follow Pinterest’s guidelines.
You can include between 1 and 20 images or videos in your Idea Pin.
There are plenty of design tools built into the editor: use effects, mention people, tag products, or record videos.
You will be ablt to add a Title, choose a Board to pin it to, include up to 10 tags (hashtags), toggle comments on or off, and add a list (which is for notes or things like supplies and ingredients).
The new feature is being promoted with a “Create Your Take” campaign featuring J Lo and other celebrities. The company hopes it will be a great way for users to connect with Pinterest’s rich Creator community.

These new features are being interpreted as a way for Pinterest to “Take on TikTok:” Idea Pin Takes are similar to the Stitch feature on TikTok, and the Watch tab is certainly a very TikTok-y feed experience.
The test here will be whether or not Pinterest’s core users adopt these new features. This could be a great way to add new interest and engagement opportunities to the app. Or, it could be rejected. Time will tell!
