The Stories feature has officially rolled out on LinkedIn, making it the latest social platform to adopt the popular, narrative-focused content sharing style that first appeared on Snapchat in 2013 and has since been adopted by Instagram, Facebook, and most recently Pinterest. (Although in fact, the technique is being adopted outside of social media as “web stories” by the likes of Google and Wordpress!)
The LinkedIn feature may turn some heads, and even LinkedIn acknowledged in their announcement that they had to take “the time to understand how this format fits in the professional context.”

LinkedIn Stories are letting people replace those essential water cooler moments.
— Ryan Roslansky, CEO, LinkedIn
BTW, Stories was also announced in the context of a broader redesign of the app. Although the new look may not be immediately noticeable, there are some warmer colors as well as improved search filters and new illustrations to “showcase people with different abilities, diverse backgrounds and ethnicities, and a wide range of jobs and industries.”
Open your LinkedIn app and touch the circle in the upper left corner to open the camera. From there, you have these options:
Record video or take a photo
Upload a video or still image
Add a sticker and / or text (Check out AdWeek’s how to use the question of the day feature)
Mention users with @
Whether you’re using LinkedIn for personal branding, for networking, or for driving engagement with your brand, this new feature has some serious real estate on the app.
Now… whether it catches on for the long term or not is still TBD. But, with a strategic approach, taking advantage of LinkedIn Stories while there still isn’t much competition for eyeballs could worth your time!
