Tweets are going to get longer once again! Sort of.
The upcoming Notes feature will allow you to compose native blog-style content that attaches directly to a Tweet. Twitter is promoting the feature as “a new way to write beyond 280 characters” and is testing the feature with selected writers now.

Part of the new @TwitterWrite initiative—which is also now where the features related to Twitter’s 2021 acquisition of newsletter susbcription tool Revue also live—the Notes offering involves these subfeatures:
The “Write” composer - This is where you create the Note.
Note cards - Similar to link or carousel “cards,” Notes can be attached to Tweets where they will appear with previews and link to the Note itself. This is also currently the only place where users can react (as in like or comment on) a Note.
Sharing - Users can share a Note in their own Tweet.
Unique URLs + off-site sharing - A key capability with Notes is the ability for non-Twitter users to read the content without signing in.
Editability - Definitely not a given with Twitter, but YES, you can edit a Note even after it has been published. Readers will be able to tell that a Note has been edited by the Edited label at the top.
Character limits - This is Twitter, afterall, so you know there are going to be limits. For the body of a Note, that would be 2,500 words. A Note title is limited to 100 characters, too.
Here are a few examples of published Notes in the wild!

The short length of Tweets have always been central to Twitter’s appeal. But that constraint has also been a constant source of debate as well as an opportunity for the platform. Most recently, Elon Musk has previewed his own desires for longer-form Tweets.
All of these ideas point to the possibility of Twitter becoming more of the go-to place for not just “microblogging” (the original Tweet concept) but also medium- and long-form content as well.
It will be important for content marketers to consider these possibilities while developing longer-term strategies in the coming months.
