Meet the latest social app vying to find the sweet spot of social media and AI integration.
SocialAI is a new platform where users interact exclusively with AI-generated bot profiles. Instead of waiting for likes, retweets, or comments from other human users, SocialAI guarantees that your posts will never be ignored. Whether you're sharing mundane updates or deep thoughts, you'll always receive a reply, thanks to the app's millions of programmed bots designed to engage with you.
It feels (and looks) like Twitter at first glance, but the app positions itself as a “magical diary,” creating an environment where you, as the sole human user, are constantly the center of attention. Upon signing up, users select different "types" of followers from a list that includes options like:
For positive reactions you could choose from supporters and cheerleaders
For negative/constructive feedback, you could choose critics, sarcastic people, or problem-solvers
These bots are programmed to react according to their personality traits, offering endless replies tailored to your posts.
Founder Michael Sayman, who made a name for himself with his game 4 Snaps while still in high school, says he wanted to build something that felt more alive than traditional journaling apps.
“I saw these journaling apps and diary apps out there, but they all felt so empty. When people used them it just didn’t work any different than a notes app — and there was something about that that felt, you know, weird — and so, in that regard, I really thought there was potential in making something that just felt like a magical diary.” —Sayman to TechCrunch
Here are the key details:
Select at least 3 follower types to get started. You can choose from up to 32 different personalities at launch. You can also switch up your bot types later on.
When you post an update, the bots reply. Everything you share will get replied to!
Replies will change over time. The app aims to learn and adjust to your preferences based on the bots you engage with, creating a more personalized experience.
SocialAI may be tapping into a significant shift in the way we use social media, one that Mark Zuckerberg recently hinted at:
“Every part of what we do is going to get changed in some way [by AI]. [For example] feeds are going to go from - you know, it was already friend content, and now it’s largely creators. In the future, a lot of it is going to be AI generated.” —Mark Zuckerberg to South Park Commons
So are AI-only experiences going to dominate the future online social landscape?
Apps like SocialAI (or future features adopted by other platforms) could combat the loneliness that some users feel when they don’t get engagement on their posts. On the other hand, isn’t a bot-only platform inherently anti-social?
As these new opportunities take shape, we as marketers can learn how people respond to AI-generated content and fine-tune our strategies as more AI tools inevitably find their way into mainstream platforms.
To try out SocialAI for yourself, you can download the iOS app from the App Store.
