Pinterest's new "Today" tab

Intended to be a “source of daily inspiration,” the new Today tab on the Pinterest app offers staff-curated themes (such as WHO and CDC content) as well as trending categories from self-care tips to comfort food recipes.

Look familiar? There are definitely similarities to features like the Trends tab in Twitter.

Why now?

As people began adjusting to life under quarantine, they also flocked to Pinterest. At the end of March, the platform saw all-time highs in terms of saves and searches. Additionally, there was a 34% increase in the Send a Pin feature in the U.S. Following their “best weekend ever,” Pinterest developers fast-tracked the release of Today to take advantage of the increased attention.

Why it matters: Pinterest continues to position itself as the platform for wellbeing. As user activity increases, the channel may be more important than ever.

YouTube working on “Shorts” feature to combat TikTok

YouTube is up to something…!

First reported by The Information, YouTube appears to be working on a short-form user-generated video content app that is meant to rival the booming TikTok platform. According to The Verge, the YouTube version will have a key advantage by allowing users to drop YouTube’s licensed music into videos.

Why it matters: There is still a lot of competition for video viewers among the various social media platforms. So, marketers should take time to choose the best platform for their strategic needs. If short-form video plays a role, pay attention to this battle between YouTube and TikTok (and Facebook… and Instagram… and…?!?).

New Facebook Messenger Desktop App for Group Video Calls and Chats

You’ve no doubt witnessed the rise of Zoom over the past weeks. (And perhaps pondered its impending fall?) You may not have known that Facebook is also going after the video chat market, too.

Facebook’s new Messenger desktop app for MacOS and Windows is built to bring FB’s chat features to your desktop, but it’s also built for group video chatting.

Why it matters: This is yet another way Facebook is fortifying its user base. It may also provide new ways for your audience to interact with your brand, especially for those who are active in Messenger, Facebook Groups, and even the live video space.

Want to try it out? Download the app from the Microsoft Store or Mac App Store.

LinkedIn promoting resources for the new job market

LinkedIn regularly publishes data and tips related to job search, productivity, and recruiting. During the time of COVID-19, LinkedIn is promoting multiple resources that may be helpful to these same audiences:

Build a job search strategy

Lean on your professional network

Improve your interviewing skills

Resources for Employers and Recruiters

Resources for Professional Growth

Resources for Small Businesses

TikTok's Activities to Do in Your Home
