Meta has recently unveiled a suite of new generative AI features, including in-stream visual creation options, AI post prompts, and expanded access to virtual characters.
In fact, Meta is testing “more than 20 new ways generative AI can improve your experiences across Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp.” The new features are rolling out on search, social discovery, ads, business messaging, and more.
Here are the key tools rolling out now:
The “Imagine” tool is Meta’s version of DALL-E – Generate images with simple prompts using Imagine.
Previously available only in Messenger chats, is now accessible more broadly: you can try it out at imagine.meta.com as well as in chats. Could the feature show up in the post creation areas soon?Since this expansion is part of Meta's broader strategy to integrate AI into everyday social media interactions, it’s likely a good bet that we’ll see more of this soon.
The new “Reimagine” functionality also allows users to refine visuals directly in a Messenger chat window, adding an interactive dimension to AI-generated content.
In the coming weeks, Meta is also rolling out “invisible watermarking” to increase transparency and traceability of the AI-generated images.
Chat personas are getting an upgrade, making AI versions of celebrities like Kendall Jenner and Tom Brady more widely available.
These personas now include real-time discovery capabilities powered by Bing and a “long-term memory” feature for more contextual and continuous AI interactions.
First announced in September, the bots are now available to everyone in the US: To try it out, start a new message and select “Create an AI chat” on Instagram, Messenger, or WhatsApp.
The general Meta AI tool is also an option—and it’s becoming more integrated with Reels, allowing you to find the perfect content for your needs (like the best places to visit in Tokyo).
Additional features include generating AI responses for posts to assisting in Facebook Dating profiles and group interactions. This includes new tools for creative composition, like converting images for different orientations, and implementing safety measures like invisible watermarking to track AI-generated content.
AI continues to be integrated into social media platforms at a rapid pace. For social marketers, this means a new realm of possibilities for content creation and audience engagement. The ability to generate and refine visuals in-stream offers a more dynamic way to create engaging content, potentially increasing user interaction and brand visibility.
However, it's crucial to balance the use of AI-generated content with authentic human engagement. While these tools can enhance the creative process, they should not replace the genuine connections that form the core of social media marketing. Be sure to stay informed and adapt your strategies to leverage these tools effectively while maintaining a human touch in your online interactions.
