Meta recently rolled out a new feature that allows users to cross-post their updates from Instagram and Facebook directly to Threads.
According to reporting by TechCrunch, the new features are part of Meta’s larger goal to get the most out of the content people share on its family of apps. There have been ways to autoamte crossposting between Instagram and Facebook for several years, and they have also been promoting Threads within Instagram this year (you can turn this off if you want, by the way).

When creating a new post, scroll down on the final screen of options (below the caption writing, tagging options, location selector, and “Add AI Label” checkbox) to the “Share to” area. Here, you can toggle a cross-post to your connected Threads profile. You can do the same to Facebook here, too!
You can also hit “Advanced Settings” below that that single post “share to” area to view more options. On the subpage this opens, you have the options to toggle on “Automatic Sharing” which will auto cross-post all your future posts to Threads (or Facebook).

When publishing a new Facebook post, look at the toggles under your profile name but above the post drafting area. There should be a toggle for publishing this post to Threads as well as Instagram (you’ll only see the app icon, so you have to look closely). Tap these to choose your preference.
To automate cross-posting for all future posts, look for the “Set sharing frequency” options when you toggle the cross-post on or off. You can choose to “Share always” or to “Share once.”

This makes sense with Instagram, since cross-posting a Thread into Instagram wouldn’t work (although maybe we’ll see Threads start appearing in “notes” at some point?).
Don’t be surprised, though, if Meta finds a way to automate cross-posting Threads into Facebook.
This cross-posting feature is a valuable tool for social media marketers who want to maximize reach across multiple Meta platforms.
However, cross-posting shouldn’t always be the default strategy. Each platform caters to different audience behaviors and content preferences. Instagram is more visual, Facebook often accommodates more in-depth text, and Threads leans towards short, text-based interactions. While cross-posting can save time, it’s important to consider the context of each platform to avoid posts that might feel out of place.
So while you can use the cross-posting feature when it makes sense, it’s usually best practice to tailor most of your content to each platform’s unique capabilities and audiences.
