You’re then given free range to comment or react to other posts with a “RealMoji”, but consider “likes” a gimmick of the past.

Since its roll out in 2020, BeReal has climbed the social networking ladder, coming in at top 8 amongst Apple users and top 40 on Google Play according to Similarweb. In the first quarter of 2022 alone, Mashable reported that the app has been downloaded 3.2 million times and continues gaining traction as it becomes more available globally.

Relieving or a little “too” real? While the app continues to gain popularity around the globe, some critics find the concept a bit too exposing for comfort.
